DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The bulk of Southern business was delayed until Friday
afternoon, with live trade in Kansas at mostly $213, $3 higher than the
previous week's weighted average. In Texas, the majority of deals were at
$212, $2 higher than the previous week's weighted average. Northern dressed
transactions did not develop until late afternoon Friday and had a range of
$335 to $342, mostly $342 to $343, $5 to $6 higher than last week's weighted
average. According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated
Purchase Summary reports the weekly accumulated weighted averages were
recorded as: KS $211.07($209.75); NE $No Test($337.24); TX $No Test($208.96);
IA $No Test($334.38); CO not available due to confidentiality. (the prior
week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). These averages are not
available or not very accurate due to the very late week trade. It will be
interesting to see just what the weekly weighted averages will be when
summary reports are released later this morning. New record highs will likely
be set in most areas.
The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists week-to-date
trade volume totals as: KS 3,720; NE 1,720; TX 1,687, IA 2,630; CO NA due to
confidentiality. These are nowhere near where trade volume totals will be
when summaries are released later this morning as most business developed
after the Mandatory cutoff. Friday's slaughter totaled 82,000 head, 7,000
below the prior week, and 29,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill was
estimated at 7,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 555,000 head, 21,000
under the previous week, and down 59,000 from 2024. The weekly average for
boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $333.48(-0.32), select
$317.48(+2.00), with an average choice select spread of $16.00(-2.32), and a
total load count including cuts, trimmings, and grinds of 578(-28), (Changes
from the prior week are listed in parentheses).
For the week ending April 19, 2025, Imported Beef Passed for Entry in the
U.S. totaled 52,486, 100.35% of the previous week and 96.28% of the 4-week
average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It will likely be a typical Monday morning with both
packers and producers busy preparing for the week ahead. Bids and asking
prices are yet to be established. Significant trade volume will likely be
delayed until much later in the week. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher
with light box movement.
